Day
4:
Where Are You Now?
You have a list of things you
would like to do with your life. And
you have a list of talents and experiences which are the tools at your
disposal to get you to that dream life.
Let’s take stock of where you are now so we can see how far you
have to go to get to your dream life.
Where do you live
geographically? Are you happy
living here or do you want to live somewhere else?
Do you own your own home or
rent?
Are you still in school? Do
you have a degree?
Are you working in the field of
your choice?
Are you close to family and
friends? And do you see them on a regular basis?
Do you have money left at the
end of the month or too much month at the end of your money?
How much do you have set aside
in savings and investments? Equity
in your home?
Does your wardrobe reflect the
real you?
Does your spouse/significant
other share your long-term goals?
What responsibilities do you
have towards others (spouse, children, parents, job, siblings)?
What do you daydream/fantasize
about?
Take a look at the things in
your life that aren’t congruent with who you think you are or who you
want to be. For me, I took a
look in the mirror one day and realized the extra thirty pounds I thought
didn’t look too bad really didn’t look too good either.
Truth is, they made me look like a frumpy, middle-aged woman. And I don’t see myself as a frumpy, middle-aged woman.
The outside wasn’t matching my inside.
Facing my present reality and realizing that it wasn’t what I
wanted it to be motivated me to lose the weight when all my earlier diet
efforts had failed. I
thought: “This is not who I
am.”
Do the major factors in your
life (housing, geographical area, family, friends, job, money, even
clothes) fit in with the picture you want of yourself?
If not, you now know the areas you want to work on. And
that is half the battle.
